Despite saying ‘No’, Kamat still under consideration for LS seat

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | FEBRUARY 24, 2024, 01:08 AM IST

Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant’s statement that party workers cannot say no to take up party responsibility indicates that Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu’s candidature is still under consideration for the South Goa seat. Diggu has time and again announced that he is not keen to contest the coming polls. Indeed, when the battle for the BJP South Goa ticket had almost narrowed down to ex-MP Narendrabai Sawaikar and ex-DyCM Babu Kavlekar, CM’s statement has only fuelled speculations whether the party would zero down to Diggu for South Goa. Wait and watch.

Sardinha’s counter over support in 2019 polls puts Vijai in a spot

South Goa MP Franciscobab Sardinha’s counter question whether Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai had worked for him in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls must have put the Fatorda MLA in a tight spot. For, Vijaibab was a Minister in the BJP-led government headed by Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant in 2019. Even assuming that Vijaibab had extended his support to Sardinhbab in his own way, the Goa Forward chief cannot afford to make any claim since it would run contrary to the coalition dharma. In a sheer coincidence, when Sardinhbab has sought to know whether Vijaibab had supported him in 2019, the Goa Forward chief is still trying to figure out whether the 2019 Lok Sabha polls cost him his Ministership. You know why?

Girish has no issues if Cong plans to stick to minority candidate

Ex-GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar seemed to have no issue in the event the party leadership sticks to the time tested norm of fielding a candidate from the minority community for the South Goa Lok Sabha election. If sources are to be believed, Girishbab is believed to have made a mention of his stand on his application, seeking the South Goa ticket. The ex-PCC chief, who is now a permanent member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Congress’ highest decision making body, is, however, believed to have made a reference to the changing situation in South Goa, including the demography in the district. Wait and watch.

When ‘no nonsense’ Parrikar got Shivaji’s statue removed

With statues of Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji taking shape at some places on the eve of Shiv Jayanti, officials and citizens alike remembered late Manohar Parrikar for his bold and tough stand in handling a similar situation during his regime. When a life-size statue of Shivaji was installed overnight at the Children’s garden in the communally sensitive Rumdamol Housing Board, no nonsense Manoharbhai had directed the then South district Collector N D Agrawal to do the needful. Agrawal lost no time in getting the police to remove and take custody of the statue. Those protesting against the statue removal beat a retreat after they found no political backing. Any takers?

Shivaji statue row: All eyes on Sawant’s intervention

As Velim AAP MLA Cruzbab Silva called on CM Pramodbab Sawant with a plea to intervene on the Shivaji row at Areal, questions did the rounds on social media whether any of the ruling Ministers and MLAs hailing from the minority community have taken up the issue with the government. For, Pramodbab has returned home after visiting the southern states to drum up support for the saffron party in the coming polls. Is any action forthcoming from the CM on the Areal incident? Wait and watch as Pramodbab has headed to Delhi with the issue of political reservations for the Scheduled Tribes.
