BELAGAVI
In what could be termed as good news for commuters between Belagavi and Goa, the long pending repairs of the dilapidated Belagavi-Goa road via Chorla will commence on Saturday. Karnataka PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi has decided to take up the work on priority.
An amount of Rs 58 crore which has been sanctioned for the same has been placed with the Karnataka PWD, wherein 43.381 kms of Karnataka side of the road will be taken up of repairs and maintenance, NHAI Project Director Bhuvaneshkumar said.
As the work on the NH748AA is still incomplete, thousands of vehicles, including vegetable and milk supply vehicles, ply on the Belagavi-Goa road via Chorla everyday.
However, commuters were facing difficulty in travelling due to heavily damaged and unmotorable stretches. This was resulting in accidents and damaging the vehicles.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday had inaugurated various projects in North Karnataka region from Belagavi.
Jarkiholi said that during last six months he had met Union Minister Gadkari nine times to highlight the issue of the Belagavi-Goa roads.
