Remote Canacona ward to get underground cables

CANACONA

In a rare development project, the remote Marlim ward in Poinguinim village is set to get underground electricity cables.

Marlim and Tirval, the two wards of Poinguinim situated within the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, have been demanding basic infrastructure facilities. Though Marlim had a tarred road, residents were facing acute water shortage and erratic power supply due to frequently snapping of overhead wires in the forest.

Residents of Marlim and Tirval had been agitating for a proper road, electricity and water supply to their areas.

Both areas situated at a distance of over 3 kms from each other, had received national attention for boycotting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls en masse to highlight the government’s indifference to their basic issues. On Friday, Poinguinim Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar laid the foundation stone for the underground cabling at Marli ward in the presence of the Panchayat body.
