The saffron brigade was left red-faced after party-backed sarpanch Avinashbab Sardesai heading the Aquem-Baixo panchayat in the Navelim constituency was voted out of office in a no-trust motion. Sources say saffron leaders did every possible trick in the book to persuade the signatories, members of the ruling panel to save the party from embarrassment. Two of the signatories were reportedly called for discussion on Thursday night as a last-ditch effort to save sarpanch Avinashbab Sardesai from ouster. All efforts, however, came a cropper with all the signatories voting out the sarpanch. It’s another matter the saffron brigade may take consolation in the fact that the group behind the sarpanch’s ouster has claimed they too are aligned with the ruling party. Any takers?
