Several booked over assault in Mapusa temple dispute

Acting on an order of the District and Sessions Court, Mapusa police booked an offence against a number of people on charges of assault in connection with a dispute at a temple in Acoi-Mapusa.

According to the information, the incident took place in the temple premises at around 9.30 pm on April 1, when the accused, Jayesh Kalangutkar, Nagesh Naik, Nitesh Kalangutkar, Rupesh Kerkar, Ajit Chodankar, Avinash Wayangankar, eight other women and some unknown persons were accused of disturbing peace.

The accused are alleged to have assaulted and threatened a woman, Kundan Malji and Vishwesh Lingutkar.

The complainants later filed a complaint in this connection and the court later heard the final report submitted by the Mapusa Police Station in relation to the case.

Following this hearing, the North Goa District and Sessions Court directed the Mapusa police to register a case in the matter. PSI Utkrantrao Desai is conducting further investigations.
