Where’s GPCC Chief Girishbab Chodankar? Has he quit the post after the ZP election debacle? And, why is his cell phone continuously switched off? These and other questions have come to the fore both within the Congress and outside as reports of Girishbab’s resignation started doing the rounds since mid-week. While nothing has been heard from Girishbab, only his trusted lieutenants have confirmed his resignation. Opposition leader Digambarbab Kamat says he had twice visited his residence, but could not find Girishbab at home. Wait and watch as the CLP leader expects the GPCC chief to return home during the weekend.
In a tight spot
As confusion prevailed in the Congress camp over Girishbab’s resignation, a scribe posed a query to Opposition leader Digambarbab Kamat whether he has anyone in mind ready to take over the GPCC top post. In his characteristic style, Diggu pushed the buck of appointing a successor to the party High Command. What many people, however, do not know is the fact that Diggu is not averse to leading the Congress party in the 2022 election. The question that remains unanswered is whether Diggu would give up the CLP leader’s post to take over the GPCC reins or will he be content in donning the roles of both party president and CLP leader. Strong friends, now political foes
Goa Forward Party Chief Vijaibab Sardesai isn’t ready to accept the saffron brigade’s claim that the victory in Guirdolim is a victory for the linear projects. Nothing, however, stopped Vijaibab to use the Guirdolim result to target the father-son duo of Joaquim and Yuri, who had embraced the Congress just before the ZP polls. Vijaibab seemed to have neither forgotten nor forgiven how Yuri abandoned the Goa Forward to join the Congress. That Vijaibab termed BJP’s Guirdolim win as a defeat for opportunistic politicians is an indication that once close family friends are now political foes. Any questions?
Ready for GPCC responsibility
There may not be a dearth of leaders in the Congress willing to take over the top post if GPCC Chief Girishbab Chodankar is hell bent on quitting. Veteran Congress leader and South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha is one leader who has time and again said he will not shy away from assuming any responsibility given to him by the party High Command. As a loyal Congress soldier, Sardinhbab says he is ready to take over the GPCC post if the party asks him to do so. Wait and watch what Girishbab and the Young Turks within the party have to say on Sardinhbab’s readiness to take over the GPCC mantle.
At his mocking best
It was a week when Varca strongman Bab Churchill mocked at the Congress for winning just four seats in the Zilla Panchayat polls. And, he took the ZP result to justify his demand for 20 Assembly seats for the NCP if any seat-sharing takes place with the Congress in 2022. Churchill’s rationale appeared simple. He says while the NCP has emerged a strong force in Goa as it bagged one seat out of the four it contested in the ZP polls, the Congress managed to win only four seats from the many it contested. Interesting, isn’t it?
