Will Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu pull the right strings with the BJP leadership to get Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant and Urban Development Minister Vishwajitbab Rane withdraw the directions scrapping the Margao Municipal recruitment process and save the Margao Municipality from slipping away from the hands of the saffron brigade? This question did the rounds in Margao’s political circles during the weekend after the Urban Development department’s directions to the MMC to stop the recruitment process have stirred a hornet’s nest in Margao. Sources say the saffron brigade had promised jobs for the siblings of two ruling Councillors as LDCs for their support for the ruling group in the civic body. Wait and watch.
Resentment seems to be brewing
among councillors who joined BJP
Only time will tell whether Diggu will manage revocation of Urban Department’s directions to the Margao Civic body to cancel the ongoing recruitment process. Resentment, however, seemed brewing amongst the neo-saffronities, who had embraced the BJP along with Diggu last year. An impression is gaining ground that that they are being taken for granted by the ruling dispensation. Leave alone the promised jobs for their siblings, Councillors, who joined the ruling party in private wonder whether the city has in any way benefitted when they had paved a way for the Lotus to bloom in the Margao Civic body after 17 long years. Indeed time for introspection.
All eyes now on how Vijay makes
capital of strained Damu-Diggu ties
With political developments unfolding in the Margao Municipal Council, with reports speaking of a strain in the relations between Margao Municipal Chairperson Damubab Shirodkar and Cong-turned-BJP MLA Diggu, questions are being raised in political circles about how would Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai go about the matter. Sources say Vijaibab has not forgotten how the BJP took the ordinance route to come to power in the Margao civic body around a year ago. Wait and watch as Vijaibab’s right hand man Durgadasbab Kamat, sources said, is on the job to ascertain the ground situation.
Meeting of Cong leaders, some Girish
supporters with Vijai raises eyebrows
It’s now confirmed that a group of Congress leaders had indeed called on Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai in Panaji some time ago. It’s not clear what was the objective behind the visit and what had transpired at the meeting remains unknown. What, however, has come as a surprise to political observers is that some members of the group, are known supporters of the ex-GPCC Chief Girishbab Chodankar. Political observers have been taken aback over the purported meeting, more so when the Goa Forward Chief and the ex-GPCC chief have been long time political rivals. Wait and watch.
Most political parties took no sides over
recent events stoking communal tension
Political leaders and parties seemed to have come under the scanner of political observers, but for a different reason. As the state witnessed communal tension over the last fortnight, giving anxious moments to the citizens, political observers have been trying to figure out the political leaders and the parties who spoke their mind out or preferred to maintain stoic silence on the tensions. Don’t be surprised if most of the parties and leaders took no sides, leaving observers to wonder whether the silence is an indication that the political class preferred to tread a cautious path so as not to antagonize their supporters belonging to different faiths and groups. Any questions.
