Shifting PM’s rally to Mormugao from Curchorem triggers debate

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | APRIL 28, 2024, 12:33 AM IST

Shifting Prime Minister Narendrabai Modi’s rally from Curchorem to Mormugao taluka, probably due to logistical issues has triggered a debate of sorts in political circles – whether Modi’s rally in the BJP’s heartland around Curchorem-Sanvordem-Sanguem belt would have helped further consolidate the vote in favour of the ruling party. With the hinterland home to the mining dependents and the ST community, which had in the recent past raised issues concerning political reservations, many a BJP leader in private say Modi’s rally at Curchorem would have helped wean back disenchanted amongst the lot and puncture Congress’ bid to make inroads. Any takers?

Reginaldo’s support to Pallavi draws criticism on social media

Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco must have realised the bitter truth that his honeymoon with the saffron brigade has not got down well with non-BJP voters.  Support extended by Reginaldbab to the BJP after the 2022 Assembly polls must have not drawn sharp reaction from his voters. His ongoing campaign in support of BJP South Goa candidate Pallavibai Dempo, however, has come under severe attack on the social media. Political observers say Reginaldbab must have been left with little option than to do a fine balancing act between the demands of coalition dharma and his voters. Any questions?

INDIA bloc eyes ‘B-factor’ voters as Girish joins Viriato’s campaign

Amongst the aspirants for the South Goa Congress ticket, ex-GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar has joined the campaign in support of party candidate Viriatbab Fernandes. Not only did he make his presence at a couple of meetings, Girishbab descended in Margao to take part in the padayatra in Diggu’s fiefdom. Amongst a host of factors, Girishbab had staked claim for the South Goa Congress ticket on the plea the B-factor will rally behind him if given the ticket. Leaders of the Congress and the INDIA bloc must be certainly looking forward to Girishbab to tap the B-factor, especially in areas playing host to the Bahujan Samaj. Wait and watch.

Cong still in discussion mode over meeting denial at Lohia Maidan

Many a Madgavkar in particular and Saxttikar in general must have expected the Congress party to knock the doors of the Judiciary after the Chief Officer of the BJP-backed Margao Municipal Council, rejected permissions for election meetings at the historic Lohia Maidan on the excuse of a short circuit. It’s now five days since Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar had conveyed his decision to the political parties, denying permission for political meetings, but the Congress leaders are still in a discussion mode with senior leaders how to go about the matter. Wait and watch.

2 Cong leaders under scanner of leadership for anti-party activities

At least two Congress leaders are believed to have come under the scanner of the party leadership for anti-party activities. If sources are to be believed, these two leaders have been lying low since they are not seen much on the ground during the ongoing campaign. It is now suspected that the duo, as per sources, have been found active on the mobile phones, with Congress leaders saying these leaders have been calling their friends and well wishers with a request – defeat the Congress candidate in the coming election. Any takers?
