Ambelim Sports Club staged a thrilling comeback to secure a place in the quarterfinals by defeating Parish Youth Nuvem 7-6 in a penalty shootout during the 24th Bro. Eulalio Vas Memorial Football Tournament. The match, organized by Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda, took place at their ground on Friday.
The game began with Ambelim missing an early chance when Asfin Pinto’s shot went wide in the 5th minute. Nuvem quickly responded as Darwin Colaco’s long pass found Meislein Barreto, who calmly placed the ball in the net in the 8th minute, giving Nuvem a 1-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, Nuvem squandered several opportunities, and Ambelim equalized in the 37th minute through Bleston Simoes. The match ended 1-1, leading to a tense tiebreaker.
In the shootout, Velroy Fernandes, Nassio Pinto, Joshua Pinto, Bleston Simoes, Asfin Pinto, and Aron Pinto scored for Ambelim, while Leroy Colaco, Shenoy Colaco, Meislein Barreto, Cedar Colaco, and Darwin Colaco converted for Nuvem.
