Betalbatim SC downed UC Benaulim 2-0 to enter the semifinals of the Lourdes Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Ambelim Sports Club at Ambelim ground on Wednesday.
Sergio D'Cunha, the coach of Betalbatim SC, gave the extra task to Brenson Fernandes to take control of the midfield and the frontline. UC Benaulim, meanwhile, gave their best through Arif Pathan. It didn't take long for Betalbatim to open their account as Brenson netted the match's first goal with a placement shot off a Ronaldo pass.
Arif Pathan of Benaulim shot wide of the target and a few minutes later, Nicholas Rodrigues missed a chance to score. Brenson netted his brace to secure a 2-0 result for Betalbatim in the 20th minute.
Fr Agnel down Rossman Cruz on penalties
Fr Agnel YSC Paroda prevailed over Rossman Cruz Nagoa Verna 5-3 via tiebreaker and moved into the quarterfinals of the Fr Bruno Leitao Memorial Cup, organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at Our Lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim, on Wednesday.
Fr Agnel were the first to settle down and broke the deadlock when Selvin Fernandes found the net in the third minute. Rosmann Cruz put up a better display after the change of ends. Frazer Rodrigues neutralised the lead for Rosman Cruz in the 46th minute.
In the tiebreaker, Fr Agnel YSC Paroda netted through David, Servin, Dolson and Denzel. For Rossman Cruz, Frazer and Savio scored. The Man of the Match prize was awarded to Frazer Rodrigues of Rossman Cruz.
Second Division: Carmel SC blank Guirdolim
Carmel Sports Club eased past Guirdolim Club 3-0 in the Goa Football Association Second Division League match at Rosary ground, Navelim on Wednesday.
Carmel SC started the match on an attacking note and scored the first goal in the second minute through Velington Almeida. The striker was in fine form throughout the game as he troubled the Guirdolim team with his constant raids. In the second half, Carmel SC were in total control and scored twice more through Velington, who completed his hat-trick.
At Taleigao ground, Portais Sporting Club scored a fluent 4-0 win over FC Mardol. All the goals were scored in the second half. Clive Monteiro put Portais ahead in the 64th minute. Vedant doubled the account before Mahadev Naik and Manthan Karmalkar added two more goals in the final quarter to make it 4-0.
