FC Goa midfielder Brandon Fernandes was conferred with an award for 'Breakthrough performance of the year' at Indian Sports Honours (ISH).
The footballer beat competition from cricketer Mayank Agarwal, tennis player Sumit Nagal and kabaddi player Naveen Kumar to win the award from ISH, an initiative by Virat Kohli and Sanjiv Goenka that felicitates sportspersons for their achievements, performance and contribution to the sports.
Brandon was delighted to win the award. “This is a happy moment in my life indeed. I've seen some of my team-mates bag this award in the previous years, and it is really nice to win it myself this time around,” he said.
“I would like to thank my coaches, national coach Igor Stimac and FC Goa tactician Juan Ferrando and all my team-mates for helping me win this award. This will provide further motivation for me to push ahead in the future,” Brandon added.
“Such awards give motivation to a footballer and I will work hard to keep making my club and nation proud,” Brandon signed off.
