MARGAO
Chandor Club clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Margao Sports Club to book their place in the finals of the 15th Davorlim Cup, at the Davorlim Panchayat ground, on Thursday.
Early chances fell to Chandor's Mario Fernandes, whose shot was blocked by Margao keeper Carol Soares, while Charles Miranda of Margao saw his powerful effort sail just wide. The first half ended goalless despite both sides pushing for the lead.
The second session maintained the tense tempo. Chandor finally broke the deadlock in the 40th minute. Alton's precise cross found Safik Shaikh, whose shot took a deflection off Margao's Carol and nestled into the net. Chandor nearly doubled their lead moments later, but Louie's shot went astray.
Margao responded by applying pressure and earning a free-kick outside the box. Francisco Andrade's delivery found Rahul, but his header went over the bar. In the dying minutes, Velton D'Souza had a golden opportunity to equalise for Margao, but his shot missed the target.
Safik Shaikh was named man of the match. Chandor will now face host Sporting Club Davorlim in the finals on May 19.
