MARGAO
FC Goa players Sarineo Fernandes and Amarjit Singh Kiyam have completed transfer moves to SC East Bengal.
Sarineo, 22, moves to the Red-and-Golds in a permanent deal after four years with the Gaurs. The two clubs agreed to an undisclosed transfer fee for the defender.
Sarineo made a name for himself with the FC Goa Developmental side and was a member of the squad that won the Goa Pro League, Taca Goa Championship (under-20) and Goa Police Cup. He was also part of the club’s unbeaten campaign in the Durand Cup in 2019, where the Developmental Team was knocked out on goal difference.
Sarineo joined FC Goa from Dempo SC in the summer of 2017 and quickly endeared himself to all and sundry, shining in the U18 team in his first season with the club. He was quickly integrated into the Developmental Team in 2018, where he helped the Gaurs win their first-ever Goa Pro League. He was named one of the captains of the Developmental Team last season.
Sarineo was elevated to the FC Goa senior team but moved to Kolkata as he was not fitting into head coach Juan Ferrando’s scheme of things and was asked to play in the reserves’ side. So, the youngster opted to move to East Bengal, who were looking for a youngster to shore up their waistline.
Sarineo’s journey in football started with Young Strikers, Benaulim in the GFA U14 tournament. He joined Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa in the U16 and U17 and played in the Bandodkar Gold Cup. He made a debut in the Goa Pro League for FC Bardez before Dempo SC roped him on loan to play in the GFA U18 league in 2017.
Midfielder Amarjit, meanwhile, also finalised a loan move to the Kolkata giants for the duration of the 2021-22 campaign as he builds up further experience at the senior level.
The 20-year-old made two appearances for the Gaurs last season in the ISL before appearing on four occasions for the Gaurs in their maiden AFC Champions League campaign last season.
EB sign Adil Khan
East Bengal has also signed seasoned Goan defender Adil Khan on loan from Hyderabad FC for the upcoming season. Adil, 33, moved to FC Goa on loan during the January transfer window after spending one and a half season with Hyderabad FC. The national team centre-back featured in the AFC Champions League for FC Goa, also starting five matches for the Gaurs in the league last season.
