Taniksha Chawan of Goa won her second preliminary bout against host Madhya Pradesh's Ayushi Awasthi in a split decision 3-2 at the 6th Elite Women's Boxing Championship in Bhopal. In the quarterfinals, she will face world champion Nikhat Zareen from Telangana.
Three girls from Goa, Shrisha Jampula in 63-66kg weight category, Suman Yadav in 50-52kg weight category, Prachi Kerkar in 81+ kg weight category, are in the fray. Vaishnavi Prabhu and Shrisha Jampula advanced to the next round after winning their respective bouts.
Vaishnavi will take on Cros Hmangaihsangi of All India Police in the quarterfinals while Shrisha will compete against Praveen from the All India Police, Suman Yadav will fight Radha Patidar of Madhya Pradesh, and Prachi Kerkar is up against Alisha Panigrahi of Odisha.
Coach Priyanka D Khandeparkar and coach Santosh V Birmole are with the team in Bhopal. Shrisha had won a bronze medal for Goa at the Elite Women's Nationals last year after a gap of 18 years.
