The Pandit Jawaharlal Stadium, Fatorda, which will host 16 matches of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, was handed over to the event’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) on October 4. The LOC officials said that the stadium is at par with any world-class venue.
“The Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda is set to have India’s first hybrid pitch that will be used for the U-17 Women’s World Cup. The stadium will host 16 matches in just 15 days, unlike other venues. FIFA came up with the idea of installing the hybrid pitch at their own cost which is worth around 4 crores borne by FIFA," an official said.
The reason for installing the hybrid pitch at Fatorda was due to more matches being played in lesser time.
India’s largest amphitheatre of sport has been completed and ready for its biggest event. “Construction is already completed," Sports Minister Govind Gaude said. "That will leave us with enough time to incorporate any changes that they suggest," he said. Gaude inspected the venue several times to get the stadium in good shape.
