San Jose de Areal booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup 2025, defeating Fr. Agnel Youth Club Paroda 7-6 in a tense tiebreaker at the Fr. Druston and Wellington Ground, Cavelossim, on Wednesday. The tournament is being organized by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim.
The match remained goalless at full time despite Areal dominating proceedings with experienced players like Raymond Fernandes, Bersal Viegas, and Alvito Mouro creating several chances. A powerful 40-yard strike from Diason Carvalho rattled the crossbar in the 20th minute, while Bersal and Leo Gomendes also came close to scoring.
Paroda's young talent Sowell Fernandes showed flashes of brilliance, but Areal defender Platini Andrade was solid at the back. Paroda’s goalkeeper Churchill Carvalho put in an impressive performance, denying several shots and keeping Areal at bay during regulation time.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Areal converted all seven of their penalties through Vanael Travasso, Bersal Viegas, Raymond Fernandes, Tyson Carvalho, Leo Gomendes, Aryan Carvalho, and Clifford Soares.
For Paroda, Kanchan Kiro, Xavier Rebello, Salvin Fernandes, Diukar Gaunkar, Sowell Fernandes, and Pravesh Borkar found the net, but Ravil Fernandes’ sudden-death attempt was blocked by Areal’s goalkeeper, sealing the win for Areal.
The Man of the Match award was presented to Churchill Carvalho of Paroda by Andu Passanhas, Joint Sports Secretary of the club, in the presence of Santani Cardozo, Club Hall Manager.
