SFX Camarxett defeated Bandol Sports Club 1-0 to clinch a spot in the quarter-finals of the 9-a-side football tournament, organised by Sporting Club Virabhat, at St. Alex Church ground, on Monday.
The game started slow, with both teams vying for control. SFX Camarxett had the upper hand early on, with James Fernandes missing a powerful left-footed shot. Anthony Peixeto of Bandol also failed to find the target before halftime. However, SFX Camarxett managed to take the lead just before the break, thanks to a well-placed tap-in by Melroy.
Bandol came out with renewed purpose in the second half, desperate for an equaliser. Maldinho Rodrigues of Bandol had several opportunities but was unable to convert. Brian Fernandes of SFX Camarxett also missed a chance to extend his team's lead.
Despite Bandol's efforts, the SFX Camarxett defense held firm, with goalkeeper Selvino Sequeira making some crucial saves. Sequeira's outstanding performance earned him the Man of the Match award presented by Savio Fernandes, President of Curtorim Gymkhana.
