Salgaocar FC’s Stephen Satarkar scored a brilliant second-half hat-trick to power his side to a commanding 5-0 win over Churchill Brothers FC Reserves in the Selvel Goa Professional League, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.
Stephen made it 3-0 with strikes in 53rd, 76th and 79th minutes, while Steflon D’Costa (84’) and Fhezer Gomes (88’) added two more to complete the rout.
It was a much-improved performance from the Red Machines from their previous game as they managed to match their opponents in the first 45 minutes. Both sides saw much of the ball in the midfield and very few chances of getting the goals.
But the second half saw the Greens dominate as Steflon and Stephen wreaked havoc in the Churchill Brothers final third. Stephen broke the deadlock with a smart finish in the 53rd minute when he zoomed into the box and drilled a low grounder to put his side ahead.
Salgaocar soon doubled the tally when Steflon nearly got past the rival keeper but clashed with the custodian and the ball fell to an unmarked Stephen, who scored his second. The first-half sub then completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish when he got past his marker and found the net.
There was room for more goals and Steflon scored the fourth. Fhezer Gomes scored the fifth with his first touch of the game when Selwyn Miranda set him through.
