Verna Veterans move into last-four

Verna Veterans prevailed over Joe cookies Loutolim 5-4 via tiebreaker and moved into the semifinals of the St Michael Veterans Cup football tournament organised by St Michael Boys at Orlim Church ground on Wednesday.

Verna took the lead in the 16th minute through Seby. In the 59th minute, Niclau Borges equalised for Loutolim. The full time score remained 1-1. In the tiebreaker, Melwyn, Vincent, Seby and Eusebio found the net for Verna while Assis, Samson and Agnelo scored for Loutolim. In another match on Tuesday, Calangute Veterans got the better of Janot Boys Carmona 7-2 to move into the semifinals.

Allwyn opened the account for Calangute early in the first half scoring two quick goals in the 5th and 8th minutes. Bruno Coutinho made it 3-0 for Calangute before the break. In the second half, Presley pulled one back for Carmona.

Minutes later, Sebastian scored the fourth goal for Calangute. Carmona scored their second goal through Nikita. Prashant scored the fifth for Calangute followed by Bruno scoring his second goal for Calangute. In the closing minutes, Shekhar made it 7-2.

Pilerne edge into quarterfinals
Pilerne Sports Club defeated St Rock Majorda 2-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the FC Tuem Champions Trophy inter-village football tournament played at DSYA ground, Tuem.

In the 13th minute, Aniket Naik of Pilerne SC scored with a neat placement. In the 18th minute, St Rock’s Bevan D'mello’s powerful shot went just over the crossbar. In the 29th minute, Leny Vas’s shot was saved by Pilerne keeper Kurpesh Badadkar.

In the 30th minute, Bevan D’mello made no mistake in putting the ball into the rival net. The score was 1-1 at the break. Post resumption in the 41st minute, Josley Dias’s shot was stopped by keeper Badadkar. In the 43rd minute, Aniket scored his brace with a rasping shot to give Pilerne the lead again.

Oscar Braganza missed a golden opportunity to level the scores in the dying minutes. Pilerne player Sidhant Naik was cautioned for a reckless tackle and Aniket Naik was shown yellow for delaying the restart of play.
