As many as 80 cyclists, who participated in the all-Goa women cycling ride on Sunday completed the 100-km and 50-km riding challenges.
The annual signature cycle ride ‘Go Girls Go’ was organised by Margao-based Xaxti Riders, espousing the theme ‘Save the Girl Child’ in collaboration with Office of the District Magistrate and District Appropriate Authority, PC-PNDT Act, Margao.
Flagging off the ride, Snehal Prabhu, deputy collector, South Goa, said: “I congratulate Xaxti Riders for organising such rides, especially for young girls and women, as I believe that self-empowerment is the best form of empowerment for women.”
“The aim was to showcase the spirit of sisterhood and bonding as well as make women realise their capabilities,” explained ‘Go Girls Go’ coordinator Binota Nadkarni.
The cyclists, aged 10 to 70 years, were a mix of doctors, architects, dentists, teachers, lawyers and students. Mothers and daughters rode together, bridging the generational gap through the power of the road and lure of the wheel.
The cyclists were treated to nourishing breakfast and refreshments, chilled wet-towels, refreshing mist on the face and even physiotherapy facilities to take care of the post-ride aches and pains. Each cyclist was presented with a finisher’s medal.
