Curtorim Gymkhana secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Simon Barreto Memorial Inter-Village Football Tournament with an 8-7 victory in a thrilling penalty shootout against United Boys of Ambaulim. The match, organized by Maina Sports Club, took place at the DYSA ground in Curtorim on Friday.
In a tightly contested pre-quarterfinal, both teams struggled to find the target throughout regular time, with neither side managing to score. Despite creating several chances, both teams were unable to break the deadlock, and the match ended 0-0 after full time.
The game was decided by penalties, where Curtorim Gymkhana successfully converted all eight of their spot kicks through Freddy Hilario, Ryan Fernandes, Frazer Fernandes, Rhay Dias, Floyd Antao, Afileo Fernandes, Mario Mascarenhas, and Anslem Fernandes. United Boys of Ambaulim responded with seven successful penalties from Sowell Fernandes, Jesus Fernandes, Visiton Fernandes, Selton Fernandes, Anthony Fernandes, Selwyn Fernandes, and Teron Fernandes.
Selton Fernandes of United Boys Ambaulim was awarded the Man of the Match trophy by Arnald Costa, President of Curtorim Gymkhana, for his outstanding performance in the shootout.
