A 10-man Sporting Club of Davorlim overcame Rossman Cruz Nagoa Sports Club 1-0 to cruise into the quarter-finals of All Goa St Anthony's Festival Cup inter village football tournament organized by St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda at Panchayat ground, Assolda on Tuesday. The all important goal came in the 14th minute through the boots of Cliffton Rebello.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds entertained. As the match progressed, Sporting Club of Davorlim took control and held sway over their opponents. They unleashed a barrage of attacks and their efforts bore fruit in the 14th minute when Cliffton Rebello slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off well measured pass from Romeo Colaco.
Stung by that setback, Rossman Cruz intensified their attacks and made a couple of forays into the rival territory but Davorlim defenders were alert in frustrating the rival attacks. Post resumption, Sporting Club of Davorlim continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges and ball possession but could not add more goals to their tally as their strikers muffed gilt edged scoring chances.
Davorlim were then reduced to 10 men but Rossman Cruz failed to utilise their numerical advantage. Although they came close to neutralizing the lead, their forwards remained off the mark. Meanwhile, Sporting Club of Davorlim had scoring chances as well but their forwards failed to beat the Nagoa goalkeeper.
