Seventy-three clubs affiliated to Goa Cricket Association (GCA) in a meeting held at Porvorim at Alto Porvorim Sports and Cultural Club have demanded appointment of an administrator immediately to monitor the association's affairs.
The clubs met on Sunday and discussed the various issues pertaining to GCA in the light of the recent fraud case involving its top officials. The meeting was chaired by former MLA Rajesh Patnekar. Former Ranji players Hemant Angle, Namdev Phadte and others were also present for the meeting.
In the meeting, after elaborate discussions the following five resolutions were adopted by the clubs. 1) The State government should dissolve the existing committee and appoint an Administrator on GCA in the interest of cricket; 2) All the account books of GCA should be seized by the government immediately before the same are tempered with by other members of the existing committee members of GCA; 3) The existing system of Proxy should be abolished; 4) An enquiry should be conducted into the bogus clubs on the roll of GCA; 5) The voters list should be prepared.
Later while speaking to presspersons, life member of GCA and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai stated that clubs do have trust in the BCCI. He said the government should step in immediately and appoint an Administrator of IAS cadre and also appoint two former Ranji players to assist him to conduct the business of the GCA smoothly.
The clubs demanded that the BCCI should demand a clarification from GCA about the utilization of funds given to the association since 2005. He also said that the clubs which are registered under Registrar of the Cooperative Society Act should be allowed affiliation to GCA. Another demand was that the Vice president and other members of the existing committee should not be allowed to function as they are also equally responsible for the fraud committed by the President, Secretary and the Treasurer.
