Aalhad Chati, a third-year Goa Dental College student did the State proud at the All India University Aquatic Championship held in Bengaluru recently.
In the said event, Aalhad won gold in platform diving, silver in 3 mtr springboard and bronze in 1 mtr springboard. In platform diving, he was a clear winner with 169.7 points with Sandeep (UP) on 160.75 claiming the silver. On 3 mtr springboard, he was 20 points adrift Ashu (Delhi) on pole position with 210 points. On 1 mtr springboard, he had to be content with a bronze with Ashu (Delhi) bagging gold and Varun (Karnataka) claiming silver. The Goa men’s team comprised of three swimmers and a lone diver.
Aahad bagged the runner-up trophy in Men’s diving for Goa University single-handedly. Coached by P Narasimhalu, he has been a consistent performer in all India University Nationals.
Aalhad has been awarded by Goa University as ‘Best Sportsman’ of the year 2017-18. He is a rare combination of excellence in academics and sports at a national level. An overwhelmed Aalhad expressed delight to winning the medals at the prestigious meet and humbly thanked the Goa University sports director Milton Fernandes, Dean of GDC, V M Prabhudesai, SAG Director, coach P Narasimhalu, Goa Swimming Association, his parents and team-mates for being part of his success.
