ABC pip Dunes, in semis

A first half strike by Stepleton Fernandes helped ABC, Arambol overcome Dunes Sports Club, Morjim 1-0 to romp into the finals of McDowell's N01 Premier Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Agassaim Youth Club at Aggassim grounds, on Thursday.

The match started the game with both the sides showing good enthusiasm. ABC, Arambol enjoyed better possession with striker Jaison Fernandes and Stepleton Fernandes harassing the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.The match-winner came in the very 3rd minute of the opening stanza when Jaison Fernandes found Stepleton Fernandes free on the flanks and the last named, without wasting any time unleashed a stiff grounder, beating the rival goalkeeper hallow.

Stung by the early reversal, spirited Dunes went into attacking mode and created many openings but ABC, Arambol goalkeeper Kevin D'Souza denied Dunes Sports Club equalizer, displaying fine anticipation and smart fingers. Dunes nearly fetched the equalizer but rival goalkeeper Kevin D'Souza thwarted Glencio Britto sure goal.

At the other hand, ABC, Arambol had couple of scoring chances but their forwards frittered away from hand-shaking distance.

Crossing over, Dunes coach David D'Souza tried all his tricks but without success. He made couple of changes but the equalizer eluded them. Dunes striker Sandesh Sawant who was in the thick of action and unleashed a shot which was well blocked by ABC goalkeeper.

With time running out, Dunes went all out but rival defenders held on to protect the slender margin.

Savio Madeira, AFC Instructor and former National coach was the chief guest and was introduced to the teams.
