Goalkeeper Akshat Hadkonkar will lead Sporting Clube de Goa at the AIFF Youth League in Shillong, where a total of 16 teams from different parts of the country will vie for supremacy in the Under-18 competition.
Sporting Clube are placed in Group A along with Sudeva FC-Delhi, Sports Authority of India (Kolkata) and the second-placed team from the Play-off round Group B. The Flaming Oranje colts will play their first match on May 16 against the yet-to-be decided Play-off qualifier. They then take on Sudeva FC on May 18 followed by SAI Kolkota on May 20.
Sporting qualified for the final round from the Goa phase with 17 points from 5 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses. Sporting beat Churchill 2-1, Sesa Academy 1-0, Dempo 1-0, Salgoacar 2-1 and FC Goa 1-0, they drew 0-0 with Salgaocar and 1-1 with Churchill Brothers; went down 0-1 to Dempo, 2-4 to Sesa Acdemy and 0-2 to FC Goa.
Abhyyday Sabharwal is the highest scorer with 4 goals for the Flaming Oranje boys followed by Stendly Fernandes and Aman Govekar (2 goals each). Trijoy Dias and Joyson Gauncar scored 1 goal each. The team has trained hard under chief coach Shekhar Kerkar and his assistant Savio Vaz. Meanwhile, Sporting Academy has achieved a 3-Star rating under AIFF Non-Residential
