Menino de Bandar one of the seniorplaywrights of the Konkani stage, who produced hits like ‘Succorine, Duddu aniGinnean’ Ghara Ie’ and Dha Lak’, is coming out with his new show at the end of October 2012. He has his own reasons for doing so.
‘There are advantages as well as dis-advantages in releasing the show a little afterthe monsoons end. During the monsoons, we stage shows in the auditoriums- thefair season gives us an opportunity to pick up dates for open air shows in thevillages. If people watch a tiatr in the villages they are reluctant to make itto the auditoriums in the towns and vice-versa’ he says philosophically.
His new tiatr ‘Tumchinch Bhurguim’ is slated for release on October 27. One ofthe reasons could also be the availability of his chosen cast. And his castincludes Satyawan Tari, Mario de Vasco, Comedian Inas, Baba Cielo, T. Briton,Marcuc Vaz, two more child artists, Avinash and Eliza, etc. Besides his regularartists, a majority of his cast will be new this time. He says he wanted tobring in a little change with new faces in his presentation. He was reluctantto spell out the theme of the plot, however, the title is suggestive. Reading betweenthe lines will tell you that it’s a plot that has something to do withchildren. The focus this time could be on a physically challenged child. Nowonder he has two child artists in the tiatr.
‘Tumchinch Bhurguim’ will have the music scored by Maestro Cruz de Sanvordem,while Melroy will accompany on the keyboards. One rarely finds any politicalsongs in Menino de Bandars’ tiatrs and this time he will maintain the sametradition. He says, ‘I do not contribute to the idea of naming politicians andcasting aspersions on their political sins in public, through the medium of songs in tiatrs’. He will however compensate his audience with decent comedysongs as has been his tradition.
