In the little sleepy village of Consua, off the beaten track, a mastermind of the indigenous music world finds new ways of expressing himself, and has no intentions of stopping at where he has currently moored himself

TheKonkani tiatr stage offers a lot of opportunities to talented youngsters togrow in their respective professional fields and achieve success. LenoyGomendes, a professional keyboard player from Sirlim in Navelim is one suchyoung man who found his moorings when he entered the Konkani tiatr stage inMini Mario’s troupe in the year 2003. Ever since then, this young and talentedmusician has not looked back and climbed the success ladder steadily one stepat a time.

Soft spoken Lenoy however admits, “I had humble beginnings by first playingkeyboards for the church choir in the Rosary Church, Navelim and I stillcontinue to do so as its choir Master.” He has even performed as a one man bandfor most reputed hotels in North and South Goa, before taking a headlong plungeinto tiatrs and Konkani music.

For 5 consecutive years Lenoy went deeply into playing for tiatr groups andgrew in confidence and experience. “As a music director and composer, I havecomposed and arranged music for top Konkani stage directors like Roseferns,Prince Jacob, Mario Menezes, Menino Mario, Anthony San, Menino de Bandar, MaxcyPereira, Patric Dourado, Annie Quadros, C D Silva, Comedian Ambe, ComedianAgostinho, just to name a few,” he says.

Lenoy Gomendes has now virtually taken a break from regular tiatr music and isconcentrating more on his recently setup ‘Lens Recording Studio’, where he isbusy providing services for Konkani music as a sound engineer. He however takesspecial music assignments for tiatr tours abroad. So far he has toured theUnited Kingdom and the Middle East with tiatr troupes.

Among the many Konkani music shows that he has been a part of as musicdirector, he holds the Alfred Rose Tribute show in April this year as a special,and admits that he enjoyed working on the music for the same. On the same note,he reminisces about the two Konkani musical shows he did on songs from theKonkani classics ‘Amchem Noxib’ and ‘Nirmonn’ produced by F C Global music.‘Playing for this musical show was like a real tutorial in music. I had a goodexposure playing the original music scores written by Music director FrankFernand’ concludes Lenoy.
