All Goa veterans T-20 tourney at GCA grounds from April 21

The second all Goa T-20 veterans season ball cricket tournament will kick off at the GCA ground, Porvorim on April 21. The finals will be held on the same ground on April 24 at 2.30 pm.

Organized by one of the oldest cricket club in Mapusa, Dost Cricket Club, the tournament is being held in memory of late Ramchandra G Pankar.

“All together eight teams will take part in the tournament. Teams will represent Pernem, Bicholim, Tiswadi, Vasco, Ponda, Margao, Bardez Gymkhana and Dost Cricket Club,” said Tulshidas Shetye, President of Dost Cricket Club while addressing a news conference, in Mapusa.

According to the organizers the winning team will get Rs 20,000 as cash prize while the runners-up will take away Rs 10,000. Besides there will also be individual prizes.

“Since it’s a veteran’s match the members of the team will be of 45 years and above,” Shetye said.

The organizers will also felicitate some 10 veteran players on the occasion.

The prize distribution ceremony will be held on April 24 after the final match at around 6 pm where the Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza will be the chief guest.

Porvorim MLA, Rohan Khaunte will be the guest of honour while GCA President, Chetan Desai and GCA Secretary, Vinod Phadke will also be present.

The tournament has been sponsored by noted Mapusa businessman, Ramesh Pankar of M/s Shanu Pankar.

“Late Ramchandra G Pankar was a multi-faceted person and an ardent fan of cricket. He was one of the members of the Dost Cricket Club and therefore we organize this tournament in his name,” the organizers said.
