Ambaulim storm into semis with big win over Raia

United Boys Ambaulim thrashed Raia Sporting Club 5-2 to book a semi-final berth in the 18th All Goa Inter-Village Seraulim Panchayat Cup Football Tournament at Seraulim Panchayat Ground. Raia Sporting took an early lead through Delan Gomes (15’) and Sanjro Pango (24’), but Ambaulim hit back quickly with Cyril Dias scoring twice in the 25th and 28th minutes to level the scores at half-time. Ambaulim dominated the second half, with Sowell Fernandes (36’), Cyril Dias completing his hat-trick (40’) and Selton Fernandes (55’) sealing the win. Raia were reduced to 10 men after Rivo Borges was sent off.
Pocklivoll, GTS Tollecanto advance in AVCC tournament
MARGAO: Pocklivoll Sporting Club Velim and GTS Tollecanto advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2nd AVCC Open Invitational 9-a-side Football Tournament at Velim Church Ground. Pocklivoll edged past Ambelim Sports Club 1-0 in a closely contested match, with Brace earning the Man of the Match award. They will face Shantadurga Panzorconim in the quarter-finals. In the second match, GTS Tollecanto defeated T Boys Velim via tie-breaker after a 2-2 draw. Goalkeeper Dillon D’Silva was named Man of the Match. GTS will face AVCC XI next. Other quarter-final fixtures include Harrisson XI Cuncolim vs 63 Baradi and Patxalla Boys Zaino vs Cross Boys Velim.
Baradi 63, Shantadurga Boys register wins
MARGAO: Baradi 63 and Shantadurga Boys Panzorconim registered wins in the AVCC Open 9-a-side Football Tournament at Velim. Baradi 63 played out a 3-3 draw before defeating their opponents 4-2 via tie-breaker, with Alison named Man of the Match. In the second match, Shantadurga Boys Panzorconim edged past Upcoming Boys Velim 3-2, with Sheesh Gaonkar earning the Man of the Match award.
State U-7 chess meet set for April 25-26
MARGAO: The Salcete Taluka Chess Association will organise the U-7 State Chess Championship-cum-Selection at the Nehru Stadium Media Centre on April 25 and 26 under the aegis of the Goa Chess Association. The top five players in the Open category and top two in the Girls category will qualify for the National Championship in Maharashtra in June. Players born in or after 2019 are eligible to participate. The event will offer a total cash prize of Rs 5,000 along with trophies and special taluka-level awards. Goa has enjoyed recent success at the national level, with Prayank Gaonkar winning silver in 2024 and Evan Antonio Telles clinching gold last year.
Loyola storm into semis with dominant win over Ambelim
MARGAO: Loyola High School, Margao, booked the final semi-final spot in the TSH Goa Cup 2026 with a commanding 4-0 victory over GFDC Ambelim, sealing the contest with a clinical first-half display. Loyola struck early, with Joswalt Fernandes opening the scoring in the third minute before Fayne Rodrigues doubled the lead just three minutes later. The Margao side maintained relentless pressure, as Norville Fernandes added a third in the 21st minute, followed by Ashlan Barreto’s strike a minute later to put the game beyond Ambelim’s reach before the break. With a four-goal cushion, Loyola controlled proceedings in the second half, focusing on possession and defensive discipline to deny Ambelim any comeback opportunity. Chandrakant Maikarnekar was named Man of the Match for his influential performance, as Loyola advanced to the semi-finals with strong momentum.
