MARGAO: Ambelim Sports Club defeated Chandor Sports Club 4-1 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the 25th All Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side Inter Village Football Tournament, organized by Sirlim Sports Club at Chinchinim Church ground.
Gale D'Costa scored for Chandor Sports Club in the seventh minute. However, Ambelim's Semson Fernandes and Asein began to press Chandor's defense, leading to an equaliser from Semson Fernandes. Just before halftime, Michael Silva of Ambelim and Sildon Peixoto of Chandor were shown yellow cards. The halftime score was 1-1.
In the second half, both teams continued to attack. In the 34th minute, Asein's shot hit the side post and went out of play, while Louie Noronha's attempt for Chandor hit the crossbar. In the dying minutes, Ambelim scored three quick goals: Semson Fernandes in the 56th and 59th minutes, and Blasco Fernandes in the 58th minute.
