MARGAO: Ambelim SC booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 27th All Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-Side Inter-Village Football Tournament after defeating Guardian Angel SC 4-2 in an entertaining pre-quarterfinal clash.
Ambelim made a bright start, with Nessio Pinto opening the scoring in the eighth minute before Samson Fernandes doubled the lead in the 21st minute. Guardian Angel fought back through Granville Fernandes, who pulled one back in the 29th minute to leave Ambelim with a 2-1 advantage at the interval.
Guardian Angel resumed on an attacking note and restored parity in the 35th minute through Ivo Costa, raising hopes of a comeback. Ambelim, however, responded strongly as Blasco Fernandes put his side back in front in the 48th minute. Samson Fernandes then completed his brace in the 64th minute, sealing a convincing 4-2 victory and sending Ambelim SC into the last eight of the tournament.
