Ambulor Boys edged past Poriebhat Boys 1-0 to win the 2nd all-Verna inter ward football tournament, organised by youths of Bamborda at Verna panchayat ground,
on Sunday.
Ambulor Boys wrested early control of the game and Elroy Miniz scored in the 16th minute, off an assist from Desmond Gama. Poriebhat regrouped and retaliated in the 23rd minute but Vincent shot wide from close range.
Crossing over, Poriebhat put up a vastly improved display and attacked their opponents. However, Lenoy muffed sitter in the 47th minute. Ambulor too had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards muffed gilt-edged
chances.
However they did enough to maintain their one-goal lead and win the title. Ambulor Boys were awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000, while Poriebhat bagged a cash prize of Rs 8,000. Fr Benjamin Victoria, parish priest of Our lady of Rosary Church, Curca was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
Individual prizes: Best player of the final - Desmond Gama of Ambolur, Best striker - Elroy Moniz of Ambolur, Best defender - Manuel Moniz of Poriebhhat, Best goalkeeper - Elvis Abrances of Ambolur.
