Angela Naik appointed referee for Australia taekwondo events

Goa’s Angela De Abreu Naik has been selected as an international referee for the G2 Australia Open and the G3 WT President Cup & Oceania Poomsae Championship, scheduled to be held in Gold Coast, Australia, from June 17 to 22.

An international referee since 2009, Angela has officiated at several World and Asian Championships and was also involved in the referee selection process for the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games. She is the first Indian woman to attain an 8th Dan Kukkiwon Black Belt and qualify as a WT International Referee Class 1 in both Kyorugi and Poomsae disciplines.

An international gold medallist, Angela received the International Taekwondo Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award in Croatia in 2015. She is also a recipient of Goa’s Jivbadada Kerkar Sports Award.
