Anjuna Gym blank Carmona to reach quarters

MARGAO

Putting up a more disciplined and improved display, Anjuna Gymkhana Sports Club hardly put a foot wrong as they sailed to a convincing 2-0 win against Carmona Sports Club to enter the quarter-finals of All Goa Varca Panchayat Cup inter village football tournament at Varca ground, on Sunday. All the goals came in the first half.

Anjuna showed good understanding and worked well as a unit. They were better organized in both attack and defence and enjoyed a clear edge over the Carmona team. Anjuna Gymkhana broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when striker Saprem Diukar unleashed a volley which gave no chance to the rival goalkeeper. Anjuna inflated their lead when Vinayak Mulgaonkar's curling flag kick dipped into the net, 2-0.

Stunned by the double blows, Carmona Sports Club tried their best to reduce the margin but failed to beat the rival strong defence. Crossing over, Anjuna continued to enjoy the lion's share of exchanges but could not increase their tally. Vinayak Mulgaonkar of Anjuna was adjudged as the Man of the match.
