Anjuna Gymkana overcome UC Nerul, seal semis spot

Anjuna Gymkhana moved into the semifinals with a hard-fought 5-4 tiebreaker win over United Club of Nerul in the 13th London Trophy 2019, organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Tuesday.  

In a fast paced encounter, United Club of Nerul missed a chance to surge ahead in the 7th minute of play as a Aniket Dabholkar pile-driver was brilliantly punched away by a diving Nerul keeper Krupesh Bandodkar. At the other end, Russel Fernandes saw his full-blooded shot off a Dwayne Britto pass, miss the target by a whisker in the 19th minute of play.   

In the 30th minute, Anjuna Gymkhana’s Rohan Kamble saw his effort punched away by Krupesh Bandodkar in the Nerul goal. In the very next minute, the Anjuna goal had a close shave as Anson D’Souza narrowly missed the target. Towards the end of the half, Faheez Mohammad of Anjuna Gymkhana saw his try from close range hit the crossbar. There was no score 

at half time.  

United Club of Nerul surged ahead in the 48th minute as an Anson D’Souza header landed into the Anjuna nets with Anjuna Gymkhana keeper Dinesh Morasker caught off guard. In the 54th minute, Rohan Kamble missed a golden opportunity to equalise for Anjuna Gymkhana as his well taken free kick was kept out by a diving Krupesh Bandodkar in the Nerul goal. In the 57th minute, Lester D’Souza of Anjuna Gymkhana shot over the bar from 

close range.   

Anjuna Gymkhana finally managed to score the equaliser in the 61st minute of play through Aniket Dabholkar, who tapped home from close range. Towards the end of the match, Dwayne Britto saw his effort saved by the Anjuna keeper. The match ended in a 1-1 draw resulting in 

the tiebreaker.  

In the shootout, Anjuna Gymkhana scored through Rohan Kamble, Dinesh Morasker, Pratik Dhargalkar, and Aniket Dabholkar. Somshekar Kumbar’s effort was saved by Nerul keeper Krupesh Bandodkar. United Club of Nerul scored through Lincoln Gonsalves, Yeshwant More, and Dwayne Britto. Rajat Chopdekar and Anthony Fernandes’ shots were saved by Anjuna keeper Dinesh 

Morasker.  

Pratik Dhargalkar of Anjuna Gymkhana was cautioned by referee Rohidas Bhomkar.
