Goa’s Dr Ankush Patil stormed into the finals with commanding victories over Dr Ibraheem Saleem 21-18, 21-15 in the Men’s Singles and Dr Viraj 21-19, 21-11 in the 35+ category, while Dr Felx Dias (Goa) booked his place in the 60+ final defeating Dr Hemant Sathe 21-10, 21-15 in the semifinals of the All India Doctors Badminton Tournament at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim.
In other semifinal encounters, Dr Abhiram overcame Dr Gautham 24-22, 21-8 (MS), Dr Ketan Sinha beat Dr Anirudh Dinesh 21-12, 21-12 (35+), Dr Budi Prakash Murty outclassed Dr Raju 21-6, 21-6 (50+), Dr Sudesh Tiwari defeated Dr Mahesh Sabnis 21-9, 21-3 (50+), while Dr Dnyaneshwar Shinde got the better of Goa’s Dr Satish Kudchadkar 21-11, 21-8 in the 60+ section.
In the Men’s Doubles semifinals, Dr Anirudh Dinesh / Dr Ibraheem Saleem edged past Dr Akhilesh / Dr Rakshit KV 21-18, 21-19, and Dr Vikyath Narayan / Dr Vikas beat Dr Gautham / Dr Francis 21-19, 21-10. In the 35+ doubles, Dr Dhaval Fadadu / Dr Rohan prevailed over Dr Sushiilkumar / Dr Prakash 21-19, 21-19, while Dr Abhishek Verma / Dr Abhishek Chauhan advanced via walkover against Goa’s Dr Ankush Patil / Dr Francis Abel. Earlier, Goa’s Dr Mihir Desai exited in the Men’s Singles 35+ quarterfinals and later, along with Dr Dattaprasad Samant, bowed out in the MD 35+ quarterfinals.
Earler, the tournament, organised by Mighty Sports with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, was inaugurated by Dr Satish Kudchadkar along with Dr Nanda Deshpande, Dr Nikhil Samanth and coach Vinayak Kamat.
