Assam defeated Haryana 7-1 in a Group B fixture of the ongoing 37th Sub-Junior National Football Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Assam showcased footballing skill and acumen in what was a total domination over the opposition from the first minute. Assam’s attacking duo of Joydeep Gogoi and Adarrsh Das hassled Haryana’s defence line throughout the match.

As early as the 4th minute, Adarrsh Das single-handedly breezed past the Haryana defence line and could’ve completed a sterling solo move had Haryana’s custodian not made a finger touch save to deny him. However, in the 11th minute Joydeep Gogoi slotted his opportunity to give Assam a solitary goal lead.

Amar Nath doubled Assam’s lead in the 27th minute as Assam continued to initiate a foray of attacking moves. In the 44th minute, Uday Bora scored from a cheeky finish as he completed a tacky attacking move to make the score-line read 3-0.

Although Haryana reduced their deficit shortly after, through an exquisite freekick from Sahil Kadian, Assam scored with almost the last touch of the ball, courtesy of a fine Rajesh Basumatary goal, as the half-time scoreline read 4-1 in Assam’s favour.

In the 61st minute, Assam had a chance to stretch their lead to four goals when a cross from the right flank was hoofed over the bar by Uday Bora. Haryana tried to reduce their deficit but failed to get past an efficient Assam defence which kept the Haryana attack force at bay.

Shortly after, Samujjalbvragohain slotted his chance home, after he latched onto an inch perfect pass from the midfield to give Assam an unassailable four goal lead as the score-line read 5-1. In the 74th minute, Assam bagged a penalty kick and Parthib Gogoi slotted it past a hapless Haryana custodian to make it 6-1. Shortly after, Samujjalbvragohain scored again to make it 7-1 for Assam.

With the tie put to bed, Assam dictated possession and saw the game out. At the end of full-time the scoreline read 7-1 in Assam’s favour.
