Avertano, Luizinho camps take firm control

The race to control the affairs of the panchayats in Navelim constituency has finally ended with former Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado claiming that his men are firmly in the saddle of the Davorlim and Aquem-Baixo panchayats, while the BJP-Independent group has returned to rule the Rumdamol village panchayat.

At Navelim village panchayat, both Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro and Navelim ZP Cipru Cardozo posed for photographs with the elected sarpanch and deputy comprising of Wilma D’Silva and Paulo Pereira and the panchas.  
While the ZP member Cipru Cardozo claimed that majority of the ruling group comprises of his supporters, the Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said he met with the newly elected panch members of Navelim panchayat and Telaulim panchayat and congratulated each of them on their victory and gave them his best wishes for the years to come. “I shared my vision for all in the constituency that is “To make Navelim into a clean, green, healthy and safe constituency”,” he said.  
Newly-elected Telaulim Sarpanch Estevan Goes told The Goan that the panchayat would seek the help and assistance of the Navelim MLA to usher in the development of the village.   
Former Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado pointed out that his panel is in control of the village panchayats of Davorlim and Aquem-Baixo. While the sarpanch and deputy of Davorlim were elected unopposed, the Aquem-Baixo sarpanch Siddesh Bhagat got elected by defeating the rival group.  
At Rumdamol, the BJP, with just two members in the 7-member body, surprised the main players, when the party got an independent two-member group elected for the coveted posts. Backed by the BJP, former Sarpanch Safia Bi returned to the post, defeating the rival group.
