Newly elected Pilerne-Marra Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar said his priority would be to complete work on the sports project and take up construction of Panchayat Ghar.

Govekar and Sonal Malvankar were elected unopposed as sarpanch and deputy sarpanch respectively of Pilerne-Marra Panchayat, after their ‘Together for Pilerne’ panel swept elections in the panchayat by 8-1 panchas, with the lone opposition panch pledging alliance to Housing Minister and local MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar.
Govekar’s candidature for the post of sarpanch was proposed by Santosh Bandodkar and seconded by Brenda Vaz, while Malvankar’s name for the post of deputy sarpanch was proposed by Sandeep Bandodkar and seconded by Roshna Rane.
Observer, Guruprasad Naik from BDO, Mapusa, and Panchayat Secretary Dinesh Chodankar conducted the election proceedings.
Later speaking to media persons, Sarpanch Govekar thanked the panchas for reposing confidence in him and electing him as sarpanch unopposed.
“I will endeavour to work for development of the village by taking all the panchas into confidence. My priority would be to complete the work on sports project and take up construction of Panchayat Ghar,” he said.
“I will ensure that residents get sufficient water supply, for which I will request the government to construct two overhead water tanks. Illumination of streets will be given due importance,” said Govekar.
Speaking on sharing of the posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch, Govekar said nothing has been decided in this regard as yet.
“We fought the election as independent candidates under ‘Together for Pilerne’ and considering the work done by me and my colleagues during the last term, people elected them.”
“I was unanimously selected as sarpanch by the panchas and the question of sharing the post did not arise during the meeting. There should be stability to govern the panchayat,” said Govekar.
