In an order issued by the Under Secretary (Health), Dr Bandekar took charge of the overall workings of the
hospital.
His predecessor Dr Savio Rodrigues who held the post for a couple of months is relieved of the post to make way for Dr Bandekar.
Dr Rodrigues who is professor and head of the department of microbiology replaced
Dr Sunanda Amonkar who had held the post for several years.
He was given additional charge of medical superintendent of the Goa Medical College and was relieved of the post as of Wednesday.
Dr Bandekar who is head of the department of orthopedics at the hospital will officially take over the post and be in charge of running day-to- day functions at the hospital.
The order was issued by Under Secretary (Health) Maria Seomara Desouza.
It may be recalled that Dr Bandekar was temporarily removed from his post in 2013 after a
vigilance department inquiry was initiated against him for alleged corruption in purchase of medical equipment and malfunctioning of another machine.
Following the suspension in April 2013, he was reinstated as head of department in October of the same year after vigilance cleared him of the charges.
