Mohun Bagan have lodged an official complaint to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) against East Bengal defender Arnab Mondal on Sunday. The Indian international has been accused of hurling a racist remark towards Cornell Glen during the Kolkata derby in the I-League on Saturday.
"This is to inform that during our I-League 2015-16 match played on April 2, 2016 against East Bengal, our foreign player Cornell Glen had faced a racist remark from Arnab Mondal. The incident happened in the first half of the match. Match Referee Santosh Kumar was standing close and heard the distasteful comment passed by Arnab at Glen and he assured Glen that he will note the incident in his match report," an official statement from the reigning champions read.
"In the above context, Glen and Mohun Bagan today have sent a Letter to Mr Kushal Das, General Secretary, AIFF notifying him of the entire situation and have urged him to take stern action against the accused player as per the appropriate law set by AIFF," the statement added.
East Bengal rode on a Do Dong Hyun brace on Saturday to defeat arch-rivals Mohun Bagan 2-1 in an I-League clash at Siliguri and boosted their chances of winning the maiden I-League title. Following a conversation with the club's manager, Sanjoy Ghosh, Glen had written a letter informing the governing body about the incident.
This is the second time a player has reported a racial abuse on the ground, after Atletico de Kolkata's Baljit Singh Sahni accused FC Goa's Gregory Arnolin in the second edition of the Indian Super League.
