MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club secured their place in the quarter-finals of the 32nd Curtorim Panchayat Cup, organized by Curtorim Gymkhana, after edging out Ambelim Sports Club 6-5 in a nail-biting tie-breaker.
The match started slowly, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm. Ambelim’s Nial came close to scoring with a left-footed shot that struck the woodwork and went out of play, leaving the first half scoreless at 0-0.
In the second half, Betalbatim began to apply pressure, but striker Gladston missed a clear chance. They had another opportunity to take the lead, but Keith’s effort went wide of the target.
The match went to penalties, where Betalbatim demonstrated their shooting prowess. Gladston, Oliver, Dickson, Keith, Elroy, and Didymus all found the net, while Ambelim managed to score through Nial, Valroy, Lester, Ozen, and Rozwin.
Gromiko Fernandes, former general secretary and internal auditor of Curtorim Gymkhana, awarded the Man of the Match title to Gladston Braganza for his standout performance.
