MARGAO: Calangute Veterans secured a spot in the semi-finals of the S. Mini Mart Seraulim Veterans Football Cup, defeating Chinchinim Veterans 1-0 in a tightly contested match held at the Church Ground, organized by United Sports Club of Seraulim.
The decisive goal came in the 17th minute, courtesy of star striker Alwyn Fernandes, whose shot from just inside the box found the far corner of the net, leaving Chinchinim's agile goalkeeper, Martin Dias, with no chance to respond.
At halftime, Calangute Veterans led 1-0. The second half saw Chinchinim Veterans pushing hard for an equalizer, but they were met with a resolute Calangute defense and excellent goalkeeping from Gabriel Fernandes.
Both goalkeepers, Martin Dias of Chinchinim Veterans and Gabriel Fernandes of Calangute Veterans, delivered outstanding performances, making brilliant saves throughout the match.
