Brandon Fernandes could be fit for FC Goa’s away game at Bengaluru FC on Friday. The attacking midfielder had suffered an ankle injury against NorthEast United FC in the 2-2 draw at Fatorda on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Benaulim lad twisted his ankle as he tried to come to an abrupt halt while his team-mate Ahmed Jahouh was launching a tackle against a NorthEast player as both the FC Goa players converged on to the same opponent. In the process, Brandon had done enough harm to his ankle so as to be unable to continue and coach Sergio Lobera had to make a substitution inside the first quarter. Missing Brandon, was a setback for the Gaurs and the Spanish coach later
admitted that.
With Brandon then going in for scans, it has now emerged that the ankle is only bruised and nothing broken, so as to bring in big relief to FC Goa, going forward towards the business-end of the season. FC Goa coach Lobera will have a close look at Brandon’s progress over the next 24 hours before deciding to take a call whether the Cape Town-based ASD Football Academy trained attacker should board the plane to Bengaluru, scheduled to depart on Thursday at 4.30 pm.
The next two matches are against the ISL4 top two - BFC away and then Chennaiyin FC at home on (Feb 15) - and Brandon is one of the key players in Lobera’s attacking style of play, who the team will hope to be back
immediately.
