Calangute Veterans prevailed over Sun Moon Chandor Veterans 4-2 on tie-breaker to win the All Goa Barcelona Boys Veterans football tournament in an absorbing final at Mabai grounds, Per Seraulim on Friday. Both the teams were locked in goalless draw at the end of normal period. Calangute Veterans were well served by former international and national players as they dominated the game and pushed their opponents on the defensive.
With former India captain Bruno Coutinho leading from the front he bulldozed with speed and darting runs into the rival territory. At the other end, Sun Moon Chandor Veterans did not lag behind as they attacked the rival citadel with well orchestrated raids with former Sesa Goa midfielder Alfred Fernandes playing a stellar role for Chandor Veterans as he kept his forwards busy with streams of passes.
Both the teams had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards muffed gilt-edged scoring chances. Crossing over, the trend continued in the same vein with both the teams' forwards showing urgency and launched a flurry of attacks but defenders stood tall in protecting their citadel. Calangute Veterans' custodian Jude Fernandes was the hero as he effected two brilliant saves in the penalty shoot out.
