MARGAO: Carmel Sports Club Navelim stormed into the final of the St Anthony Festival Cup 2026, organised by St Anthony FC, Assolda, after defeating Guardian Angel SC, Curchorem 5-3 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Guardian Angel SC took the lead in the 33rd minute through Regan Costa, who finished off a well-worked move to put his side ahead before the break.
Carmel SC Navelim fought back strongly after the interval and restored parity in the 49th minute when Venito Costa found the back of the net, forcing the match into a penalty shootout.
From the spot, Carmel SC kept their composure as Richard Costa, Venito Costa, Sam Pereira and Joyson Coutinho converted their penalties to seal a 5-3 victory and book their place in the title clash.
For Guardian Angel SC, Imson Fernandes and Gleeson Fernandes were on target in the shootout, but it was not enough to prevent their exit from the tournament.
Mehboob Sayed of Carmel Sports Club Navelim was named Man of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance.
