With the State marching towards becoming cashless, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs and SAG Executive Director V M Prabhudessai disclosed that keeping this in mind, cash rewards will be deposited in the sportsperson's bank accounts and that only the trophies will be awarded at the meet to respective winners and runners-up of concerned disciplines.
Prabudessai made this disclosure at the inaugural fuction of the 3-day 6th Tribal Sports Festival
2016-17 at AdarshGram, Amone, Poinguinim held last week. The event was organised by the Sports Authority of Goa.
Speaking at the inaugural, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar said: "Our deep involvement only
in football and cricket has made us unaware of achievements made by other sportspersons at the national or international events in other disciplines. But giving a fillip to traditional sports activities is certainly a big leap in sports fields. By organizing tribal sports festival, our state too
contributes to national development through sports."
The meet witnessed around 1200 sportsmen taking part from as many as 12 talukas in volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, Tug-of-War, marathon, vithu dando, logoryo and langdi.
The tribal sports was being held on the sidelines of Lukosthav-17 organised by Adarsh Yuva Sangh, Balram Gram Vikas Sanstha and Arts And Cultural Department (govt of Goa) at Adarsh Gram Amone-Poinguinim.
