Cavelossim showed better cordination and broke the deadlock in the 30th minute through Joel Fernandes. Stung by the setabck, a subdued Salgaocar neutralised in the 34th minute through Doyl D'Silva. Cavelossim struck the match-winner in the 40th minute, when hardworking attacking midfielder Joshuah Vaz sent a diagonal and well measured pass for Melvin Fernandes who beat the advancing Salgaocar goalkeeper Naveen Kumar with a snap shot.

Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim showed great understanding and resilence to beat Salgaocar FC 2-1 in a GFA Pro League match at Government School playground, Cuncolim on Saturday. All the goals came in the first half.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and devoid of foreigner players the match had more of an Indian look to it.
Cavelossim showed better cordination and broke the deadlock in the 30th minute through Joel Fernandes, follwing a looping free kick taken by Rayman Fernandes which saw both Marcus Fernandes and Joel Fernandes going for the aerial ball and the last named put his head in to beat the onrushing Salgaocar goalkeeper Naveeen Kumar.
Stung by the setabck, Salgaocar regrouped quickly and nearly fetched the equaliser but Jaison Barbosa failed to beat the Cavelossim goalkeeper Ram Sroop. Salgoacar who were subdued initially neutralised the lead in the 34th minute through Doyl D'Silva.
When James Fernandes floated a free kick, Cavelossim reargaurd crumbled and Doyl D'Silva gently pushed the ball in to put his team on equal terms. Unfazed, Cavelossim picked up the pace and stitched together neat passes, ensuring that they maintained ball posseesion at all costs. Five minutes later, Cavelossim struck the match winner when hardworking attacking midfielder Joshuah Vaz sent a diagonal and well measured pass for Melvin Fernandes who beat the advancing Salgaocar goalkeeper Naveen Kumar with a snap shot.
Crossing over, Salgaocar were more vibrant and pacey and it was that period when Salgaocar FC almost levelled the score but Jaison Barbosa headed over the cross bar after Brian Mascarenhas' floater from the left. Later, Alesh Sawant's header missed the mark narrowly.
Cavelossim nearly increased the tally but substitute Levino Fernandes' low header went straight into the safe hands of Salgaoacar goalkeeper Naveen Kumar. With time running out, Salgaocar FC went all out in the dying moments of the game but substitute Umesh Harrijan failed to beat the Cavelossim goalkeeper off a cross from Rosario Fernandes.
With this win, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim collected 23 points from 16 matches while Salgaocar FC stay on 19 points from 15 matches.
