CES College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim emerged victorious in the 2nd Inter-College Football Tournament, defeating Government College Sanquelim 2–1 in a thrilling final held at the DSYA Ground, Ambelim, on Friday.
Organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with the CES Students’ Council, the tournament kicked off on August 19 and saw enthusiastic participation throughout. The grand finale drew over 500 spectators, all treated to an action-packed contest.
Both teams impressed with their discipline, sharp passing, and attacking intent, keeping the audience engaged throughout.
The opening goal came in the 15th minute when Zaid Khan of Government College Sanquelim fired home a powerful strike, putting his team in the lead. CES College responded strongly, and in the 30th minute, Praveen Khole leveled the score with a stunning long-range shot. Earlier, CES forward Johiol Yattanli was unlucky as his effort hit the post.
The match-winner arrived in the 52nd minute courtesy of a brilliant solo effort by Saiesh Gaonkar of CES College, who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2–1.
Despite relentless efforts from both sides in the second half, solid defending ensured no further goals, handing CES College the well-deserved win.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by chief guest Bibiano Fernandes, head coach of India’s U-17 football team. He was joined by several dignitaries including Prakash Dessai (Secretary, CES Institutions), Shailesh Vaidya (CES Member), Parvath Naik (Physical Director), Nikhil Dessai (Instructor), Parshuram Salwadi (India U-17 Goalkeeper Coach), along with Shrikant Dessai, Akash Dessai, and others.
